The Presidents Message

Hello my little birding friends! Hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the birds. Some are migrating back up from the south. I’m starting to have redwing blackbirds and grackles at my feeders and have a beautiful flicker at the feeder. Mal is still around but will be lonely soon when the mallards start mating. They should have never took his white mate away. Mal is half mallard and half Peking duck. About 20 or more robins were eating the berries on my holly tree on March 2nd! Ospreys will be coming back soon too. Hopefully the bald eagle will return to his nest and this bird flue won’t kill a lot of our birds.
I was reading an article in the South Shore Audubon newsletter about Robert Shroud. He was a convicted murderer and pimp and became a famous ornithologist!! He had to be in solitary confinement because of his personality and temper. While there he wrote several books that helped veterinarians. I’ll have to get one! You can look him up on google.Â
Well folks enjoy the birds and ducks and maybe I’ll see you on the bird walks. Happy Birding!!
P.S. – Just a reminder folks that dues are due for the year. Look on back page of newsletter for the form. Â – Annette Brownell

Parks and Trails on Long Island – Sept/Oct 2025
I love going to the beach because it is so beautiful and quiet beach with great views. I love walking along the water to the rocks and back-it’s a great workout. It’s fun looking for shells.
