Parks and Trails on Long Island – Sept/Oct 2025

Park name: Cupsogue Beach County Park, 975 Dune Road, Westhampton
Fees: Fees collected from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If you have a county green key card, it is half price to park. If you are a senior with a green key card, you get in free Monday-Friday.      Â
Why I chose this park: I love going to the beach because it is so beautiful and quiet beach with great views. I love walking along the water to the rocks and back-it’s a great workout. It’s fun looking for shells.
Why visit here? You can fish on the ocean or bay side, camp with your RV along the bay side and drive along the access road running parallel to the outer beach (you must have a Suffolk County outer beach permit to drive onto this road.) There are bathrooms and a concession stand. There is live music as well (for music schedule, check out Tiki Joe’s Cupsogue on the web)! In the wintertime, walk along this access road to see seals on an island in the bay.

The Many Ways of Birding by Karen Andres
I used to think that to be a Birder you needed to be able to find and identify different birds. I’m learning that this isn’t necessarily true. Recently, I have become aware of several other types of birding techniques that don’t require you to identify a single bird!
