Presidents Message – November 2024

by | Dec 4, 2024 | Blog, The Sandpiper

Hello, my little birding friends! Hope you are all well and enjoying the birds. New ones have come in and some have gone south. It’s nice to see the different ones like the wood ducks, hooded mergansers, and others. We’ve had nice bird walks thanks to our leaders John, Vera, Jack, Ken, and Mike. We’ve had good turnouts of people coming to the walks, too. Most of them twelve or more people! Thanks to all!

Our bird walk to Sunken Meadow produced hooded mergansers and two adult bald eagles! The weather has been great, too. There’s a bird website to look up things about birds called Ebird.org. This may be helpful to some of you. I had a monarch and white butterflies on my butterfly bush until the second week of November. I read in the paper that’s when they leave; it seemed very late to me. If I remember correctly, the paper said the monarchs fly to California!

Don’t forget to feed the birds in the winter with seed and suit. If you can, try to have water for them; you can get heated bird baths. A friendly reminder that membership dues are due in February. It is $15 for members over 65 years of age and $20 for members younger than 65. There’s a membership form in the back of the newsletter. The newsletter has been emailed lately if you have an email and, if not, it will be sent to you. If you have any photos of birds or articles for the newsletter, you can email them to me at crabnose88@yahoo.com.

Have a great holiday in December! Hope you were good and get a lot of presents!

Joke: Why do birds fly south for the winter? Because it’s too far to walk.
