Succinct BUT Sufficient

A small group of stalwart birders attended the Montauk field trip rescheduled to January 11th. Recurrent light snow squalls hindered visibility somewhat, but also added nicely to the winter ambience, without making the roads treacherous.
It’s nice to get the birding year off to a good start, and this field trip always does that. On this trip the avian highlights included Razorbill, Iceland Gull, Great Cormorant, Purple Sandpiper, American Wigeon, Wild Turkey and Horned Grebe. All are probable sightings in Montauk in January, but none are guaranteed. The mammalian highlight was a Grey Seal inside Montauk Harbor. This species is usually seen in the ocean off the state park.
Hope to see those and more on next year’s trip, as well as a few more participants.

Parks and Trails on Long Island – Sept/Oct 2025
I love going to the beach because it is so beautiful and quiet beach with great views. I love walking along the water to the rocks and back-it’s a great workout. It’s fun looking for shells.
