SUMMARY:GSBAS 2025 Annual Dinner
DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to have our own\, very well loved\, Shai Mitra as our speaker this year. His topic will be a surprise to us all!\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Shai Mitra has studied birds in the northeastern United States and around the world for more than 40 years.  He received a BA in Biology from Cornell University in 1989 and a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Chicago in 1996. From 1996-2000 he operated a major bird-banding station at the Fire Island Lighthouse\, on the South Shore of Long Island. Currently\, he is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the College of Staten Island\, with research interests in the areas of avian ecology\, evolution\, and conservation. Shai is Editor of The Kingbird\, the quarterly publication of the New York State Ornithological Association; co-compiler of bird records for the New York City and Long Island region; Chair of the Rhode Island Avian Records Committee; and co-compiler of the Southern Nassau County and Napatree\, Rhode Island\, Christmas Bird Counts.\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dinner tickets are $70 per person and include hot and cold hor d’oeuvres\, appetizer\, salad\, choice of three entrees\, dessert\, soda\, coffee and tea. A vegetarian entrée is also available. There will be a cash bar.\n \nThis may be the last opportunity to win an original painting by Steve D’Amato. This year’s painting is a surprise. Chances are $10 each or 3 for $20.\n \nPlease complete and mail your dinner reservation form at the bottom of this letter by April 26\, together with both your raffle books and check payable to GSBAS\, in the enclosed self addressed envelope.\n\nPlease include your seating preference\, naming the individuals (tables up to 10). You may secure your table assignment and door prize raffle ticket at the door. Enjoy Captain Bill’s delicious food\, delightful company and terrific speaker. In 1934\, the Quogue Wildlife Refuge was founded by a group of duck hunters turned conservationists to protect waterfowl populations that were on a precipitous decline across the nation. Many factors led to to decline of wild ducks on Long Island in the 1930’s.  \n\n\nJoin Cara Fernandes\, Program Director and avid birder as she presents the history of The Quogue Wildlife Refuge with historic photos and videos. The efforts of these pioneers to band\, breed\, and protect ducks will be discussed\, as well as other interesting history.\n\n  \n\n\n			\n				Sign Up
